Ben Rogaly
Biography
Ben Rogaly is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Sussex, UK. His oral history works include Moving histories of class and community: identity, place and belonging in contemporary England (with Becky Taylor, Palgrave, 2009); and Stories from a migrant city: living and working together in the shadow of Brexit (Manchester University Press, 2020). Ben’s 2023 article in The Sociological Review with Moushumi Bhowmik ‘In search of unbordered homelands: exploring the role of music in building affective international politics of solidarity’ takes the form of a conversation between the authors following their meeting at the 2016 International Oral History Association Conference in Bengaluru, India. It includes discussion of Ben’s initial journey into Yiddish, Yiddish song and Jewish socialist internationalism.
